As we get older, most of us will experience temporary memory lapse. We may forget names or telephone numbers and have difficulty finding the right word, which can be annoying, but not life threatening. More serious memory problems and behavioral changes that interfere with life are not normal and may indicate a brain disease called alzheimers or dementia. Dementia is a brain disorder that seriously affects a persons ability to carry out daily activities. The most common forms of dementia among older people is alzheimers disease and there is no cure (fact sheet).
Alzheimers Diseases is a brain disorder named after German physician Alois Alzhiemer, who first described it in 1906. Scientists have learned a great deal about alzheimers disease in the century since Dr. Alzheimer first drew attention to it.
