.The difference between leadership and management needs to be identified. According to Hart (2003) there is a leadership management spectrum where the two sit at opposite ends from each other. For example Hart suggests leaders require transformational qualities where as a manager needs to have technical abilities which are transactional. Although this is a simplistic model it does define the two quiet well. Much of the research in the area of management and leadership has been confused, as there has been significant debate over what constitutes leadership and what constitutes management. Higgs (2002) suggests that in the late 1970’s leadership research was causing more confusion then enlightenment due to the methodological and terminological debates.
