One of the many talented artists who contributed to our paintings today is Giotto. He was of the later middle ages. His full name was Giotto di Bondone. His last name Bondone, means “a person of good standing”. He was also an architect and lived from 1267 to 1337. He died on January 8th at the age of 70. He belonged to the Florentine Guild of doctors and apothecaries. He also was the Chief architect of the Cathedral of Florence. He was said to be a kind man and loved by everyone who knew him.
He was discovered by a Florentine artist named Cimabue who was a great painter of Tuscany. He saw him drawing with a stone and a rock on the road and asked his father if he could take the boy to be his apprentice. He then later attended a school of fresco painting in Rome where Cimabue took him. Fresco painting is a technique where water-based colors are painted onto a surface of wet plaster. He became a fresco painter and then went to Assisi to paint frescoes at Basilica of St.......
