In the movie “As good as it gets” Jack Nicholson play the character Melvin Udall, who is suffering from an anxiety disorder known obsessive compulsive disorder. Melvin Udall is a sarcastic, homophobic racist that has a server dislike for people and dogs. Across the hall from Melvin lives a gay painter named Simon Nye, who has a little wiry haired dog named Verdell that seems to urinate everywhere except outside.

Even with his OCD, he has managed to become a successful romance writer, which works from his Manhattan apartment. Melvin tries to live a very secluded and ritualistic life by working from home with minimal interruptions, eating at the same restaurant every day, sitting at the exact same table, ordering the same meal, and is served by the only waitress named Carol Connelly that will tolerate his rude mouth and total disregard for others. Carol is a single mother, who struggles to care for her severely asthmatic son, Spencer.
