Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD is a childhood disorder more commonly thought of as an improper conduct disorder. Wiener (1996) states “while there is no cure for ADHD, there is a very effective treatment to minimize its symptoms” (para. 7). Through ADHD medical treatment, conduct intervention and other alternatives, parents and children can learn to live and control the difficulties that ADHD brings to everyday life.
What is ADHD and how is it diagnosed? According to the University of Virginia (2006), a child must have one or more of the three symptoms of ADHD to be diagnosed. The three symptoms consist of the inability to focus, spontaneous actions and abnormally active.
The most commonly seen symptom of ADHD is the inability to focus. At times, the child may seem distracted by sounds or objects outside of the task at hand such as radio or television easily. The child may also at times seem to not listen......
