Being and Time and the differing perspectives of Heidegger and Kant

After a semester studying intensely the works of several metaphysicians, two of them tend to stand out in my reading. I enjoyed reading the interpretations of Immanuel Kant and Martin Heidegger the most. I may not have thoroughly understood a lot of what was going on in the texts, but what I did understand made me think differently about my existence and my thoughts on life itself. I would have never thought taking a senior level philosophy class in metaphysics would have changed my outlook on life as heavily as these two philosophers have. The reading of portions of Heidegger’s “Being and Time” attracted me to the questioning of my own understanding of Being. What is our real reason for existing? Are we supposed to ponder the reasons for our existence? Is that the intention of our creation into this world? I......
