Physician assisted suicide is an issue that has been debated over for many years. Many argue that people have the right to die by any means possible while others argue that human life should be held in high regard and protected at all costs. While physician assisted suicide, and active euthanasia is forbidden, currently in the United States courts and physicians in cases of the terminally ill and those who are in a chronic vegetative state generally accept passive euthanasia. Utilitarian way of thinking is “Act to promote the greatest good for the greatest number”. Using Utilitarian justification I will explain why physician assisted suicide should be legalized. Utilitarian theory doesn’t always have to apply to a greatest number. It is broke apart into quality v quantity type of good and the effect it has on those to whom the good is distributed.
