4. Gene- Gene is the protagonist of the story and is also the narrator as well. We read the story as Gene is flashing back to his summer at Devon before his senior year. While at Devon, he develops a love-hate relationship with his best friend, Finny. It seems that Gene is uncomfortable with who he is, which is why is tries to become a “part” of Finny
5. Finny- Finny is Gene’s classmate and best friend. Is almost the perfect human being; athletic, charming, likeable, and self confident. He is a rare human being in the sense that he doesn’t see anyone as his enemy and he doesn’t try to defeat others.
6. Leper- Leper is a kind boy from Vermont and is the classmate of Gene and Finny. He is a gentle boy who enjoys nature, and even draws pictures of birds when he gets the chance to, he also enjoys skiing. He is the first boy from Devon to enlist in the army.
