In Kate Chopins story of an hour we see many instances of irony. Irony which is the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning . In the story of an hour there are three different types of irony situational, dramatic and verbal. Situational irony is used to show the reader an outcome that turns out to be very different from what was expected, the difference between what is expected to happen and what actually does. Dramatic irony is irony that is inherent in speeches or a situation of a drama and is understood by the audience but not grasped by the characters in the play.Last verbal irony is a figure of speech in which what is said is the opposite of what is meant
