Research Proposal

The topic of my research proposal is the war on drugs in

America. In a message to Congress, on August 2nd 1977, President

Jimmy Carter said,” Penalties against possession of a drug should

not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug

itself. Therefore, I support legislation amending Federal law to

eliminate all Federal criminal penalties for the possession of up to

one ounce of marijuana”. And in my research paper I intend to

argue this point.

My paper will likely be divided into the following general

headings: History, Progress, Obstacles, Benefits and Effects. I’m

going to report on the history and development of the war on drugs

and how it has thus far impacted American society. I also plan to

explore and discuss the problems it has caused the American

Judicial system and failed the citizens its supposed to protect.
