A Doll’s House (Act I)

Henrik Ibsen’s, A Doll’s House, shows us the life of Nora Helmer, a young “happy” housewife. We quickly learn Nora has children and a husband named Torvald. Torvald has gotten the new mangers position at the bank and Nora couldn’t be happier. Enter Noa’s old friend, Mrs. Linde, who Nora barely recognizes due to Mrs. Linde’s years of hard work and the loss of her husband. Mrs. Linde barely gets a word in edge wise while Nora talks of her good fortune and fabulous life she has. Nora tells Mrs. Linde about her husbands illness that he had a while back. The doctor recommends that he moves to the south. In doing this, this would cost a lot of money. Nora brags to Mrs. Linde that she herself paid for it, but does not reveal how. We then meet a lawyer, Nils Krogstad, who feels like he is going to lose his job at the bank Nora’s husband will be the manager at. We come to find that Nora had borrowed the money for her husbands trip to the......
