I was horrified when I reread facts on the Milgram Experiment. Once again, I was disgusted to recall that so many people actually push a button when they believed it was really electrocuting someone else. It’s amazing that so many humans were able to go through with this, just because someone told them to, without any real reason or motivation or cause.
I’ve come up with a variety of different justifications but none of them seem good enough to actually follow through. Someone could’ve started and then just found it harder and harder to stop as they continued- a foot-in-the-door kind of situation- until they finally convinced themselves to believe the person getting “shocked” actually deserved it. Or maybe it was the urges they received from the experimenters. Or did they place the blame and/or guilt in the hands of the experimenters and not themselves?
