The War in Iraq has been a main focus in U.S politics over the last few years; still, there has been little awareness on the impact it has on the economy. Even though there are some other important things to focus on like the impact of people in Iraq and the soldiers, the higher military spending can affect the economy significantly.
Some people believe increases in military spending help the economy and without war, the economy wouldn’t exist, however, this is not true according to economic models. Military spending takes resources away from other useful things which will slow economic growth and reduce employment. This money could be spent on health care, food for the poor, fire fighters, education, roads, pollution, research, and anything to make Americans lives better.
