While American doctors continue to debate whether an Internet Addiction is really an illness, their Chinese counterparts have made up their minds. After creating houses and clinics to deprive netizens off of their dependency of the internet, doctors in China have now drafted an official classification of internet addiction for people who spend six hours or more online daily. The addiction's symptoms include poor sleep, irritability, mental distress, and a "yearning to be online".
China classifies internet addiction as a clinical mental disorder and plans to lead the world by registering the condition with the World Health Organization. Being hooked on the Internet has been considered a problem in Chinese society as early as 2005, when the first clinic dedicated to Internet addiction opened in Beijing.
