Franklin Delano Roosevelt (F.D.R.) was born on January 30th, 1882. He was an only child and grew up privileged and wealthy in Hyde Park, New York. In 1904, Roosevelt graduated from Harvard University, and later attended Columbia Law School. When Theodore Roosevelt (F.D.R.’s cousin) became president in 1901, Roosevelt’s love for government and politics began.
Just a few years later, F.D.R. married Eleanor Roosevelt (a distant cousin) and they had five children. At age 29, Roosevelt became a State Senator and two years later he was chosen to be assistant Secretary of the Navy. Roosevelt was later chosen to run under Cox for Vice President but was trounced by the Republican Party.
In 1921, Roosevelt was faced with a life changing disease, polio, which left him paralyzed in both legs. At the time, “Polio, or infantile paralysis…was perhaps the most dreaded disease in America, a mysterious and disabling blight…” But the disease only made Roosevelt stronger. Although he......
