We often think of the history of Latin America as starting during the conquest, however to use that frame of thinking would be a fatal mistake because there was much happening in Latin America before Columbus made contact in 1492. In fact humans may have been present in some areas as early as 35,000 B.C. and expanded well across the hemisphere after 14,000 B.C. These Amerindian peoples made up a complex population with diverse characteristics that became the framework for colonial Latin America and Latin America today.
The Maya, Aztecs and Incas were a large part of the early civilizations that dominate the era before Columbus’ arrival. The Mayan civilization was developed in modern day Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, southern Mexico and the Yucatan. The Mayan civilization faced many struggles. The climate in their region was either very dry or flooded by heavy rain. They also faced the difficulty of having no centralized political structure or government so they were often engaged......
