IMPROVING ENGLISH TEACHING

The quality of English education in Turkey is not at a level which will provide students’ using English practically. The reasons of this are English education’s being based on grammar, inadequate number of qualified teachers, lessons’ being based on University Entrance Exam and the inadequacy of visual and auditory materials. This essay discusses the solutions which should be practised by government to improve English teaching in education.
The Ministery of Education has not made effective changes to improve English teaching up to now. According to a survey I made with fifteen students entering Boğaziçi University this year, 87% of the students do not think that an adequate number of effective changes have been made by the ministery of education so far.
