The American Judicial system is made up of two separate court systems, which are The State court system and the Federal court system. The Constitution gives certain powers to the federal government and reserves the rest of the powers for the states. The state court systems includes four different levels which are the limited jurisdiction court, the trial courts of general jurisdiction, the appellate courts, and the state’s highest court. The responsibilities of the limited jurisdiction courts are to handle minor criminal cases, such as traffic violations, arraignments, bail hearings, and at times are responsible for the preliminary stages of felony cases. Although the defendants have the same rights as in other trials, instead of a jury the judge makes the decisions. General jurisdiction is where criminal trials are heard and they have the authority to decide on different types of cases.
