I interviewed a man by the name of Rollin Hines. He was born in 1927 and he was 2 years old when the great depression hit. He had 21 brothers and sisters and his mom had her first child when she was 18. Rollin is one of the middle children. Rollin lived on a farm in Prattville and started working in the fields when he was 6 years old. His family was a poor family, but they never went hungry because they grew all the crops they ate. Rollin said that all the people in the depression were poor but they didn’t think they were because everyone was poor. he said that growing up poor brought the family close together and said his family had more love than any family in Alabama. His dad’s job was to grow corn and sell the corn to “colored people” so they could then make moon shine (this was before it was legal). This job made very little money and only provided his family with things......
