In other words, an internal audit function helps an organization achieve its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to improve and evaluate the effectiveness of control, risk management, and governance processes through various procedures. There is no concept of materiality in internal auditing. Internal auditors determine whether:
• Operating and financial information is reliable and accurate.
• Risk is minimized and identified to the enterprise.
• Acceptable internal policies, external regulations, and procedures are followed.
• Operating criteria are met and are satisfactory.
• Resources are used economically and efficiently.
• Organizational objectives are effectively attained.
