For centuries it was believed that one’s strengths and weaknesses were predetermined at birth, and that any attempt to change would be ineffective. In fact, one of the most well known psychologists Sigmund Freud believed that human behavior was developed early into childhood, influenced by repressed experiences which then became a part of the sub-conscious mind (Prevention magazine, 1989).
However, recent discoveries through Epigenetic research (a second genetic code that controls the activity of genes and the programming of DNA), has revealed that genes are not self-actualizing (able to turn themselves on and off). In fact, it is a person’s perception of the environment that controls the activity of a person’s genes.......
