Goal setting in sports and dealing with eating disorders

This summer was a season of rebuilding a girl’s soccer team from the ground up. Many of the players had left the team to join another club leaving plenty of spots for players to join a successful under-16 tier team. Many of the girls who stayed felt betrayed by those who had left. They were also very concerned that we would not be able to put together a competitive team for the summer with so many talented girls leaving. The strategy of the coaching staff for building this new team was simple. We needed to find not only a handful of skilled players to join the team but, we really needed to find a star; someone to lead the girls through a difficult period of adjustment. Tryouts were held very early in the spring. The competition for spots was stiff but a few of the players really stood out. Dom, not her real name, was one of those players.
