To some people, the 1960s were the best of times, to others it was a period when many things went wrong in society. Why did people have such different ideas about the 1960s?

During the 1960s, many different changes were made, not only for the good, but some were seen as terrible. People such as the liberals believe in individual chose and to have greater freedom, they supported things such as the contraceptive pill and abortion. On the other hand, some people, for example the traditionalists believed that many of the changes made were bad, and the society had broken many boundaries that had taken years to build. One reason for this was probably due to an increase in drug abuse and violence particaly amoung teenagers.

One aspect that was seen to be the ’worst of the 1960s’ was the breakdown of the family. it was becoming clear that the family was becoming less important and was shown by the amount of illegitimate births that escalated from 5.8% in 1960 to 8.2% in 1970 and......
