Approximately 2.2 million adults in the United States, or about 1.1 percent of the population 18 years and older, have schizophrenia in any given year. (NIMH, 2008). Schizophrenia can either be viewed as something beautiful, or something completely out of the ordinary. What is schizophrenia? Schizophrenia is a chronic, severe, and disabling brain disorder that does not have a cure just yet. (NIMH, 2008). Although there is no cure for schizophrenia, it takes a very brave person to admit that their sense of reality is mistaken because of this disorder. (book cite). Not many people who have schizophrenia are able to overcome these delusions, but there was one man in particular who had the intelligence and will to do just that.
