Hello everyone! Welcome to the National Archives Building. My name Bianca and I will be your guide for the Declaration of Independence exhibit. Now, to begin, who knows the actual date that the Declaration was adopted? Hint: it is the same day as a famous holiday here in the US. (wait for responses)That’s right! The declaration was fully adopted on July 4, 1776. An intriguing fact is that the Second Continental Congress actually voted on the Declaration on July 2, 1776. So America was free from Britain two days earlier than what we celebrate. Another interesting fact is that the delegates did not begin to sign the document until August 2, 1774. There were many events leading up to the drawing of this document. Now who here knows why the colonists decided to adopt this document? (wait for responses) Good, those are all correct!
