Sacagawea was very important to the Lewis and Clark expedition. Without her the expedition would have been unable to show that they were friendly to, or to get horses from, any Shoshon tribes they came across. She had been captured around the age of thirteen. She had been traded from person to person until she came under the ownership of a trader named Toussaint Charbonneau.
     When Louis and Clark came to Fort Mandan they hired Charbonneau as an interpreter. As part of the agreement, Charbonneau was able to bring one of his wives. The wife he brought was Sacagawea. She would be a valuable asset when they encountered her tribe. Along with Sacagawea went her recently born baby.
     Sacagawea did many things on the journey. She knew where to dig for edible roots and how to find rodents nests containing food. At one point in the journey they came across Sacagawea’s tribe. While there Sacagawea acted as interpreter and found out that her brother was one of the chiefs. She......
