Lady Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's greatest and most intriguing female characters. She is positioned to be viewed as fiercely ambitious and a deceptive, evil consort all at the same time.
Throughout Act one it becomes apparent that Lady Macbeth is highly ambitious, stopping at nothing, not even murder, to fulfil her own ambitions. When Macbeth first writes to her detailing his meeting of the witches and their prophecy, her first thoughts are of worry; she believes that Macbeth is too full of gentleness and decency to take the most direct path to his kingship, which she believes is murder. “Yet I do fear thy nature; It is too full of the milk of human kindness. To catch the nearest way: thou wouldst be great.” Lady Macbeth, Act 1, Scene 5. Lady Macbeth is so intent on having Macbeth murder King Duncan that she urges him to hurry home so that she can convince him to murder Duncan, and drive away with fearless words all that stands in his way of the crown.......
