“Ethical conduct is something that becomes inherent in an organization over a long period of time.”[1] This quote from Lee R. Raymond is what an organization should always show society, that they have ethical standards. Many early businesses did not have the ethical standards that the businesses of today have because laws were not in place to limit what businesses could and could not do. Even if there were laws in place it was very difficult to enforce them because of the government’s limited ability to have a presence everywhere in early America.[2] Troubles from many companies began early, one in particular was the American Fur Company started by John Jacob Astor.
