Canada’s Child Tax Benefit

Canada’s child Tax Benefit Was created on November 24 of 1989 with a resolution stating that “This House seeks to achieve the goal of eliminating poverty among Canadian children by the year 2000." (Make Poverty History 2008 www.makepovertyhistory.ca/the-issues/ending-child-poverty ) it was also meant to help families with low income to rise their children under 18 years of age, and end children’s poverty gap. The National Child Benefit Supplement (NCBS) is also part of the Canadian Child Tax Benefit (CCTB).

This benefit is something very helpful for those low- income families, with below $20.450 income a year; families that have higher income, will get less money since the benefit income depends on the family annual income. But what happens to families that are in social assistance? For them, this benefit doesn’t seem to be very helpful since it is reducing from their social assistance’s cheque. This is something call the NCBS......
