Treatments of people with psychological disorders are based on theories developed as far back as the beginning of civilization. Supernatural, biological and environmental causes influenced treatment, and helped to shape some techniques used in modern Psychology (Barlow & Durand 9). Of course, practices such as bloodletting and exorcisms are not the norm as they were in the 15th century, but many models and techniques throughout history are still used today.
Change in the field of Psychology is constant. The potions and ointments of the 15th century, the insulin shock therapy and electric shock treatments of the 1930’s, and theories/practices developed by Sigmund Freud, Ivan Pavlov and B.F.
