In 2001 the Human Genome Project was completed, giving us the makeup of the entire human genome. This accomplishment has allowed doctors and other medical professionals to tell most everything from eye color to gender, all with one tiny strand of DNA. This tiny little strand also has the ability to tell us whether or not a fetus has a serious disease or disorder that will physically and/or mentally affect the child upon birth. It is this topic of testing for genetic mutations in fetuses that questions the morals and ethics of people who perform or receive the procedure.
Thousands of people are carriers of diseases, both common and rare, fatal and non-life threatening, that they can potentially pass on to their child upon conception. For many, especially those with rare and fatal diseases, the decision is extremely difficult when it comes to reproducing and putting your child at risk of being born with that disease. So is it really ethically and morally wrong to do......
