The question to whether or not we have improved from the time of Marcos’ dictatorship has forever prevailed in the minds of our people. Most people voice out their thoughts that Filipinos way back then where far more better compared to what we are now. I shake my head in disbelief. My grandparents having grown up as a “Martial Law baby,” told me how they witness our country first evolved as a highly-disciplined nation in the early days of the Marcos regime to its political awakening in the 1980s, leading up to what democracy we enjoy now as a nation.

Now our nation celebrates EDSA through ceremonies in the EDSA shrine annually. it seems that the phenomenon that was Edsa 1 has lost its luster. Indeed, when not even President Arroyo would care enough to attend the ceremonies at Edsa Shrine, how then could we expect the entire country to rise in collective euphoria to commemorate those glorious days of February 1986?
