Where Do I Begin?

“An effective inspection program is one of the most important preventative measures that a school can take to ensure a safe and healthy workplace” (OHS Guidelines, Support Material for Schools, 1994 p27).
The Guidelines contain pages of checklists which may be used when inspecting buildings, grounds and work practices. These lists may be too daunting when completing your first inspection, so it is recommended that you start by checking the following areas which, in our experience, normally contain a number of hazards. (You may like to use this as a staff activity, and assign staff into groups of 2 or 3, and give each group one section to check).
