Abraham Lincoln, from the backwoods of Hodgenville Kentucky, rose to become one of the greatest presidents of the United States. During his attempt to keep the Union in the Civil War, he gained more power and authority than any president before him. He was an excellent politician, and was always looked upon for leadership because he put reason and thoughtful decisions behind his word.
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809. He was conceived in a log cabin built by his father, Thomas Lincoln. His mothers name was Nancy Hanks Lincoln. Abraham had one older sister, and a younger brother that died as an infant. The Lincoln family moved a lot, from Kentucky to Indiana, and back to Kentucky. He never had any sort of formal education. He read two books that truly left a lasting impression on his life; Mason Locke Weem's Life and Memorable Actions of George Washington—these books inspired him and......
