Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit
GD Fahrenheit was the German physicist who invented the Fahrenheit scale. He was not successful at being a shopkeeper. He was a glass blower, and an instrument maker. He was born on May 24th, 1686 in Gdansk, Poland. This was a time when heat could not be measured. He invented the alcohol thermometer in 1709. Then, he invented what we use in America today, the mercury thermometer, in 1714. But what he is most famous for is inventing the Fahrenheit scale. Scientists stopped using the scale and started using the more sensible Celsius scale, invented by Anders Celsius. Fahrenheit spent a lot of his life studying physics. He discovered many things, including that water does not have to boil at its boiling point. This is due to the variation of atmospheric pressure.
