Dark Rain

It was a dark and stormy night, as I sat in my chair I watched the flickering of the light emerging from the candle. The rain beat down on the roof of my house, I looked out the window and I wondered if rain was supposed to fly horizontally. I tried to relax and calm down but that did not work when the loud crashing thunder shook that house and rattled the windows. Instantly all 3 of my cats where next to me shaking looking for comfort as I looked for the same in them.
The lightning was continuous and stretched across the sky spreading for miles. After each blast of lightning there was thunder almost instantaneously afterwards indicating that the storm was right above me. The wind was knocking branches off tress and blowing over trashcans and power lines. I tried to sleep but the thunder and the police sirens keep me awake. Water was rushing down the street as if a dam was broke at the top of the road.
