the book shoeless joe takes place in iowa present day. the story is much more about dreams and second chances than it is about baseball. it starts off with the main character ray kinsella an ordinary man who live an oordinary life in an ordinary town. where he crops corn, his main source for income. ray kinsella was called upon by ultimately inhuman forces , a voice, to go on a physical as well as an emotional journey.
the voice told him" if u build , he will come". at first ray was extremely keptical of the significance of his obscure calling, but he got a viision an soon knew what he was being called to do. ray risked the emotional as wellas his economic stability of his family he loved to build a baseball field.
after completing the baseball field"shoeless joe jackson", his fathers hero before he passed away, suddenly appeared in the field to talk to ray and play baseball. ray had an extraordinary supernatural ability to revive celebrities from both the world of baseball......
