There is a secret cabal that calls itself the "Illuminati", or the enlightened ones.
The Illuminati was a secret society in Bavaria in the late 18th century. It tried to establish its own society through deceit and sabotage. The plan failed and the society was defeated. After defeat, some believed it was still a functioning group and spread rumors about the Illuminati taking over the world and starting a new order.
