While the cause is unknown, it has been speculated that some forms are genetic related. Some environmental factors may also contribute to Alzheimer's, including pollutants in the drinking water, aluminum from commercial products, and metal dental fillings.
The Alzheimer's Association has developed a list of warning signs. A person with several of the following symptoms should see a doctor for an evaluation; memory loss that affects job skills, difficulty performing familiar tasks, problems with language, disorientation of time and place, poor judgment, problems with abstract thinking, misplacing things, changes in mood or behavior, changes in personality, and loss of initiative.
